I recently became an "empty-nester", and I have to say it was an adjustment! After almost a year I am finding myself -- discovering new talents and interests, and even started a new business! Earlier this summer I was sitting on our porch with my two college aged girls watching baby birds in the nest the mom had made above the speaker. We watched patiently while momma bird came up and was showing them how to fly ... then one by one they left the nest. For some birds it was a piece of cake. They jumped and flew. For others, they struggled as they jumped -- fell downward before they took off. For one, the last one, the jump was hard, but also got lost in knowing which was was out into the world. It was a reminder that nature showed me that we were all made to leave the nest. For some, they are ready, while for others, they need a little hand-holding. As a mother we do everything we can to prepare them for the world. However, I believe it is important for them to know that while you'll be there God will also walk along side of them to protect them. So interesting to connect this story with my new business: www.gracewearcollection.com/LeahWilkerson. My good friends Wendy Strong lupus and Mary Strong Blackburn started Gracewear Collection by designing the Shield of Faith (based on the Armor of god - Ephesians 6:10-18) that was the inspiration for their jewelry/accessory line. The message and purpose of the business is to encourage women to spiritually dress themselves for our daily battles. Leaving the nest doesn't relieve parental duties ... just exercises some different ones. Probably the most important is PRAYER. Yes, I'm blessed and now feel comfortable with my future as an "empty-nester".
