The thing that all three of these hobbies have given me is community. I am finding myself surrounded by people of all ages who are interested in my art, people who are like-minded on how to create a healthier life (nourishment vs. diet) and those who understand what it's like to realize that we don't have to do life alone - #godsgotthis.
A little history: Five years ago my children began to leave the nest and it all started sooner than I expected with my middle child's interest in boarding school. (Never say never ... that wasn't in our plan at all!) The next year my oldest daughter went to college (on-time!) and I still had one at home. However, this year my son saw what the boarding school experience did for my daughter and was all about it. I kind of don't blame him ... being left at home alone with your parents to give you undivided attention - who wants that???!!!!! Result: the empty nest!
Today's devotion from Nancy McGuirk hits home for me. She begins with the question "what is your treasure". Luke 12:34, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Mid-life crisis ... looking for purpose....my treasure, really? Guess that's a good way to begin, by asking myself what is important to me in my life. I encourage you to read her devotion: https://nancymcguirk.com/devotionals/The_Treasure_of_Your_Heart
She writes, "Words, choices, thoughts, actions, decisions, purchases - all become a trail of evidence about what is important to me. Do you consider Christ a treasure in your life right now? How do you know? We hesitate to talk about our relationship with Christ, but we can easily discuss our relationships with friends. How you live speaks louder than what you say. Where do you spend most of your time or money? What do you most enjoy doing or discussing? Are you task oriented or people oriented? Take inventory. Look at your calendar, your checkbook, and your phone calls. Who and what is important in your life? Those are your treasure."
While I have begun taking inventory of my life, my interests and communities, I'm still digging deep to find my treasure. Join me in this journey . Today, why don't you get started by taking inventory?
