WHO I AM AND WHY I PAINT

Welcome! I’m Leah Wilkerson, an artist living in Atlanta with my husband and sweet Bella, our 12-year-old yellow lab. After years of raising our children, we’re enjoying our life as empty-nesters and watching our children pursue their careers and education in Charlotte, New Orleans and Greenville, SC.

Children bring out the best in you. Mine sure did. As I was entertaining them with art projects one year during the Super Bowl, I unearthed an interest in painting. That afternoon, with no formal art education, I too explored art with childlike wonder, free from the boundaries of traditional techniques. It was a magical experience!

I quickly discovered the power of self-expression and found art to be an effective way to communicate ideas that are meaningful to me. That’s it! Art is nothing more than your soul poured out on a canvas. In each piece I see stories and emotions that reveal themselves.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

I work primarily in acrylic, and my love of color is apparent throughout. Texture, layers and marks make their way into almost every painting and mixed media also occasionally comes into play. My style has been described as whimsical, spiritual, and uplifting. It seems to evoke a smile from viewers and elicit a feeling of peace, joy, and serenity. My hope is that my art reminds you that there IS good in the world.

As I continue this artistic path, I am grateful for the newfound purpose it has brought into my life. And so, I encourage others to embark on their own journeys of self-discovery, to never dismiss the power of a new beginning and the invitation to explore untapped potential.
